PR Planner Certification System introduced by PRSJ

The Public Relations Society of Japan(PRSJ)introduced a certification program in 2007 as part of an effort to develop the next generation of PR professionals. The program certifies those who have the necessary knowledge, skills and professionalism required to perform the duties of a PR person.

The program provides two types of certification. “Assistant Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” recognizes people who have basic knowledge required to work in publicity and PR industry. “Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” certifies PR professionals who perform a variety of daily duties in the areas of publicity and PR and have the necessary knowledge and planning skills in assisting publicity or PR managers.

The certification exams are held twice a year. Each exam consists of 3 stages. Those applicants who pass the 1st stage will receive the “Assistant Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” certificate. Those who are successful in all three stages will receive the “Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” certificate. The inaugural certification exam attracted 752 applicants, with “Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” certificate awarded to 145 people and “Assistant Public Relations Planner Accredited by PRSJ” certificate awarded to 390 people.
